Is Oakville a Good Place to Live?

Share This Post:

While there are a handful of different communities across the Greater Toronto Area, Oakville, Ontario stands out for a number of reasons. If you’re looking for a down-to-earth, convenient, and enjoyable place to call home, Oakville is a destination to set your sights on.

In this blog, I’ll touch on what makes Oakville special, and what you should know if you’re thinking about moving there.

Oakville’s Amazing Location

One of the best parts about Oakville is its location. Located right along the shores of Lake Ontario just about 30 kilometres from downtown Toronto, you get all the charms of a laid-back, waterside community without losing access to the perks of city life. Making things easy for commuters, Oakville is well-connected to the QEW, 403, and 407. Each of these highways offers fast access to Toronto, Hamilton, Niagara, and beyond!

Not to mention, Oakville is served by two GO Train stations: Bronte GO and Oakville GO. From here, you can catch a train that takes you to downtown Toronto in less than 45 minutes – without having to worry about traffic.

What is There to Do in Oakville?

So much more than just a suburb of Toronto, Oakville is a thriving community in its own right with plenty of cultural amenities, entertainment destinations, and things to do!

If you’re into the arts, you’ll want to check out the many unique cultural events and festivals throughout the year including the Oakville Festival of Film and Art, Oakville Jazz Festival, and Oakville Culture Days. These events are not just a ton of fun, but they’re also a great way to be a part of the community and support local artists!

Oakville is also home to a handful of world-class venues for the arts, like the renowned Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, which offers a diverse lineup of performances all year long, from theatre and dance to music and comedy. The town is also home to several visual arts galleries, including the Oakville Galleries, which hosts contemporary art exhibitions from both local and international artists.

How Friendly is Oakville?

Another fantastic aspect of living in Oakville is the people! Boasting a welcoming atmosphere and generally friendly environment, it’s a great place to build lifelong relationships with your neighbours. Despite being home to more than 230,000 residents, the neighbourly dynamic between residents can feel more like that of a small town.

There’s also an undeniable sense of pride among Oakville residents. Put simply, people who live in Oakville love it. While the town may be just outside of Canada’s largest and most influential city, Oakville’s identity is truly unique. All across town you’ll find that residents love to get involved with local events and initiatives that celebrate Oakville’s community and character.

Oakville is Great For Families

If you’re looking for the right community to lay down roots and raise children, it’s hard to think of a better place than Oakville.

Oakville makes a great home for residents of all walks of life, but it’s especially popular with families – and for good reason. Along with all the other reasons I’ve highlighted in this list so far, Oakville is known for having top-rated schools, safe child-friendly communities, plenty of parks and outdoor spaces (more than 200 to be exact!), and countless family-oriented activities.
